The objective of Community Media MANCH is to motivate community content creators and broadcasters to share their work and collaborate with each other in order to facilitate the creation of new work, programs, materials or ideas.
When you create a piece of work, others who see it on any online platform are left wondering whether they can use it in any way, to play or broadcast to their own community, to use it as inspiration to create another program or piece of work, or to use bits of your work and add some of their own to create something new. If there were a way for you to tell others the rules by which they could use your work, it would make sharing and collaborating a much happier and easier experience because everyone understood the rules.
MANCH has therefore adapted the Creative Commons Licenses, which MANCH users should use to license their content.
Creative Commons (CC) licenses provide free legal tools that work alongside copyright and helps modify copyright terms according to the needs of the user. CC licenses gives everyone from individual creator to community broadcasters and content creators a standardized way to give the public permission to share and use their creative work, on conditions of their choice.
MANCH adapts the six standard CC licenses; Every MANCH user has to select one among these licenses for their content while uploading the same.
Attribution (CC BY): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt the work even for commercial use. This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.
Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt the work, even for commercial use. Derivatives to be tagged under same license. This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use.
Attribution-NoDerivs (CC BY-ND): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute and transmit, even for commercial use. But can’t alter or build upon this work. This license allows for redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, as long as it is passed along unchanged and in whole, with credit to you.
Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt the work but not for commercial purposes. This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge you and be non-commercial, they don’t have to license their derivative works on the same terms.
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt the work. Only for non-commercial purposes with similar license on derivatives. This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.
Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND): Give credit to the original creator and you are free to copy, distribute and transmit. But you can’t use this for commercial purposes; also you can’t alter or build upon this work. This license is the most restrictive, only allowing others to download your works and share them with others as long as they credit you, but they can’t change the work in any way or build on it. Nor can they use it commercially.
Below is a short video explaining all of the above CC licenses.
